It’s Valentine’s Day: twenty-four hours dedicated to those we love. And here’s my valentine: a 1976 911 Carrera 3.0 in Continental Orange, weighing 1020 kgs with a drop of fuel on board, and always ready for some Tarmac hanky panky.
I bought a new GoPro over Christmas, and have been meaning to try some 911 video on the wicked roads we have up here. Currently there is snow everywhere and the car has no MOT or tax, so the new video might have to wait (at least until the snow melts).
But here’s an old one I found, shot when the car was brand new to me: days after I dragged it back from purchase in Switzerland. The quality is grainy and it’s overexposed, but that doesn’t change the noise. I think some of you will like it.
My 911 has no sound deadening, an LSD with shorter final drive and runs WEVO semi-solid engine and transmission mounts, which do transmit a bit more drivetrain sound (I like it). The camera is mounted on the roll cage bolted to the shell and directly overhead the seat centre tunnel, so there’s plenty of flat-six to be heard here.
I’ve fitted an intercom since this video, with voice-activated microphones and Peltor headsets. It’s the only way to run this car and not go mad on a 600-mile drive, as we’ve done on occasion. Worth every penny, as I don’t know that I would ever re-introduce sound deadening into this car: it is totally anti the character.
I would definitely never change the WEVO mounts as they are so great to use: no crappy stuck downshifts from third to second on track and with the WEVO Classic Shifter and WEVO PSJ, it transforms the one mouldy area of the old 911 experience: the gear shift.
Twinspark Racing is the WEVO distributor for Europe, and all of Hayden’s products are available to look at in the Twinspark online shop. Check it out and ask any questions you like there or here: I’m one of the three partners in Twinspark Racing and a devotee of WEVO products. I claim full responsibility for bringing them to Europe! Here’s the video:

I guess I’m a bit confused, this is a LH drive!
Yes, I only buy LHD 911s.
