Porsche 924 Turbo: Ferdinand Project Update

by John Glynn on September 27, 2012

I just spent two days up in Yorkshire with the lightweight Porsche panel manufacturers at EB Motorsport and picked this up on my travels: a tidy 924 tailgate from an eBay seller in Bolton.

It’s not perfect and suffers from the same peeling glass paint they all have, but the spoiler is in better shape than the original one on my 924 Turbo, so I was pleased to get hold of it. I’ll strip and refurb the hatch with some help from Racing Restorations and get it on the car when we do the fresh paint this winter.

If anyone ever asks whether a 924 tailgate fits in the back of a Subaru Outback, I can confirm that yes, it does. Don’t expect to fit more heavy stuff in there, though.

…when you get the 924 on the road, you’ll be amazed what fits in back of it …I put an assembled Carrera 3.0 Whaletail (incl. Spoiler) into back of my 944S and didn’t even have to put the rear seat down (space is decieving due to contours of the hatch-glass).

Cheers Danie – I have had a few 924s and also own a 944 so I know they have space to spare! Looking forward to our shooting brake conversion eventually…

Hi John were you ever tempted to go down the Carrera GT route with the turbo? Great car for a track day me thinks. I can’t make up my mind to stay 100% factory or go down the outlaw GT track.

Hi JJ, yes have been tempted. Steven Cooper just built a mega engine for his 924 Turbo and that is tempting also. But then I look at this in such straight original metalwork and I can’t bring myself to change it!
