Chris Harris has sold his GT3 4.0 RS, but remains the doyenne of Internet Porsche video. The latest Harris adventure is a drag race in a GT2 versus a Ducati 1199 Panigale.
Hardcore Ducatistas will know the Panigale: a £20k, 192 bhp monster with a top speed of 186 mph. All Porschistas know the GT2 RS: Stuttgart’s fastest-ever production car. 611bhp, 516 lb/ft, 205 mph, 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and 0-100 in less than seven. £165k when you could buy it new.
Car drivers often look at plastic fantastic sports bikes with leathered-up riders, and imagine a powerful road car could have them in the right place on a dry surface. Dream on! If you’ve never ridden a bike, give up that hope: even an older bike can blitz the latest hot four-wheelers. The upside is you survive most car accidents. I’ve hurt myself on two wheels more than once.
When it comes to beating sports bikes up a drag strip, only full-mental four-wheelers stand a chance. One of my neighbours is a three-time UK drag champ on two wheels: his fastest Top Fuel run is a 6.7-second quarter mile, with 213 mph on the virtual speedo at the end. This GT2 race is child’s play by comparison but still pretty watchable. Much as I like Ducatis, give me a GT2 RS any day!
